PNG metadata explained
PNG stores metadata in chunks: eXIf for EXIF, iTXt for XMP and Unicode text, and tEXt for simple key–value pairs. The editor writes all three, so image viewers, Windows, Adobe apps and ExifTool can read your information.
Frequently asked questions
Does PNG support EXIF?
Yes. The eXIf chunk has been part of the PNG specification since 2017.
Will transparency be kept?
Yes. Only metadata chunks are added or replaced.
Should I convert PNG photos to WebP?
For photographs, WebP or AVIF is usually much smaller. Keep PNG for logos, screenshots and graphics that need sharp edges.
