How AVIF stores metadata
AVIF uses the HEIF (ISO-BMFF) container. EXIF and XMP are stored as separate “items” linked to the main image. The editor adds these items and updates the file’s item locations so the AVIF stays valid in Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.
