What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a block of information that cameras, phones and editing apps save inside an image file. It records how and when the photo was made: the camera make and model, exposure settings, date and time, orientation, and often the exact GPS location.
Modern files also carry XMP metadata, which stores the title, description, keywords, copyright and accessibility alt text that Google, WordPress, Lightroom and Windows read.
Why check a photo’s metadata?
- Privacy – see whether a photo reveals your home or office location before you post it.
- Verification – check when and with which device an image was really taken.
- Image SEO – confirm your website images carry a title, description, copyright and keywords.
- Ownership – find the photographer or copyright holder of an image.
Frequently asked questions
Is this EXIF viewer free?
Yes. You can check up to the daily free limit without an account. Premium removes the limit.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC and PSD, plus TIFF and GIF. HEIC photos from iPhone and layered PSD files work too.
Why does my image show no EXIF data?
Many apps – WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and some image compressors – strip metadata when you share or optimise a photo. Screenshots also usually have none.
Are my images stored?
Uploaded files are kept in a private temporary folder only for your session and are deleted automatically after a few hours.
