Image SEO checklist

  • File name – lowercase words separated by hyphens: packers-and-movers-gurugram.webp
  • Alt text – describe what is actually in the image, in plain words
  • Caption – visible text near the image; captions are read more than body text
  • Dimensions – always set width and height to avoid layout shift
  • Format – WebP or AVIF, usually under 200 KB
  • Colour – sRGB for web images
  • Responsive – srcset and sizes so phones download smaller files
  • Metadata – title, description, keywords and copyright inside the file

Example for a local business

File: packers-and-movers-gurugram.webp
Title: Packers and Movers in Gurugram
Description: Professional packing and moving services in Gurugram
Alt: Packers and movers packing household furniture in Gurugram
Caption: Professional household shifting services in Gurugram

Add GPS only if the photo was really taken at your business location.

Frequently asked questions

Is alt text stored inside the image?
Alt text is an HTML attribute, so you must add it to your page – the tool gives you the code. It is also saved in the file’s XMP (AltTextAccessibility) so it travels with the image.
Does adding keywords to EXIF improve ranking?
Metadata alone will not rank an image. Rankings come from the page, file name, alt text and caption. Metadata helps with ownership, Google Images credits and keeping your library organised.
WebP or AVIF?
Both are smaller than JPG. AVIF is usually smaller still, while WebP encodes faster and is supported everywhere. Use AVIF with a WebP or JPG fallback if you can.
